Can I wear a Maxi dress to a semi formal winter wedding with no dress code specified?

Semi-formal and no dress code sort of indicate that the dictates and protocols of etiquette need not be observed, n' est-ce pas? Nonetheless, I would recommend floor length only after 3 p.m. unless it's outdoors. If outdoors - Gortex!

I don't know that the length is that important in terms of day/evening because the maxi dresses I've seen are casual, daytime styles for shopping, lunch with friends and such. If the wedding is informal, I supose it would be fine. If it's in the evening, dress should be a little more polished and not so "bohemian". One concern is that all the maxi dresses I'm seeing are summery - I wouldn't dress out of season - it just comes off strangely.
