I have a suggestion that might help. You might try finding books about things you really like--maybe a novel or something that really interests you. Then also get the audio version of the book on tape or cd. (Most libraries and bookstores will have an audio section.) That way you can hear the words as well as see them, and it may help you get a better understanding of the phonics and all that. And if you love the story, it'll be a lot easier to pay attention!
