Last night I tried a do-it-yourself hairdye (loreal perfect 10). I naturally have light/medium brown hair and have previously had highlights. The color was supposed to be a medium brown but it turned out maroon. Please help! I have very long healthy hair and I do not want to have to strip it or cause much more damage. Anyone have suggestions? Thank you!

Dying brown hair is known to be a HUGE issue and I think I might be able to help you, if you're still in need of it.

When dying brown hair, there always seems to be a reaction of hair becoming a much warmer tone such as red, orange, yellow based. What you can do to get rid of the maroonish color is to wait until it fades out like most colors do. Wash your hair daily.

If it does not, in fact, fade then consider investing on a purple shampoo or conditioner. Though purple is used to counteract yellow is blonde hair, it can still be used to make a cooler shade instead of a bright red or orange. That's the case with my hair.

I was able to buy a huge bottle of colormesexy violet mood color depositing conditioner at marshalls for $10. You can also buy some products in drug stores such as the Pantene Silver Expressions shampoo, or the john frieda collection.
