I have a snapper standard rear engine rider mower, series 17. When I purchased this mower, at the end of the season, it was the display model and was at a discount of $300. This was in 1998.
The next year when I use the mower. The engine sound was quite loud. I asked the dealer about the noise and could I get a muffler replacement that would quite the sound. He indicated that this mower could only tolerate this muffler and any change could result in damage to the engine f rom back pressure! I have tolerated this mower since then and regularly use ear-muffs to quite the sound! Just recently I bought a new muffler of the same type and that this did not solve the problem. Is there any way to soften the sound or should I just discard the mower and get a new mower? Thanks for your time!
