Sorry to ask another bug question, but ever since we moved, our backyard has become a bug museum. Anyone know what kind of bug this is? It was the size of my thumb and was crawling across my patio after the rainfall.

It's a cicada. This is the time of year they mate- they "buzz" up in the trees, mate, and then come down to die.

You will often find their left over exoskeleton sitting on the side of a tree, split down the back from when they molted.

In the South they are often called "Katydids" and their mating buzz at dark has lulled generations of kids to sleep.
