I have a central AC unit with a variable speed blower. The problem is that the blower constantly comes on and turns off at short and intermittent intervals. For example, the AC cools the house until the thermostat tells it to turn off (so far, so good). However, the blower might come on a short time later and run anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes. The blower then shuts off and comes back on again in another 2 minutes to 20 minutes. The outside unit is not turning off and on - just the blower. A tech said this is to be expected with a variable speed unit, but I do not remember it working like this last year. The unit is only a couple years old. Can someone tell me if I have a problem with the unit, or if the tech was right and it is supposed to work like this? Thanks

I do not think so. The system needs to be checked by a professional who has experience with variable speed drives.
