We have no idea what plan you have, there are dozens if not more than dozens, and even special promotional plans.

Long distance where ? I know normally Canada is not covered and Mexico is not.
Most ATT plans have no additional charges beyond minutes for calls anywhere in the US.

Most ATT plans can be viewed online, so you can track all of your minutes used, number of minutes left. and so on.

*min on your phone will send you a text message of what's current, but won't tell you what plan you have.

Long distance is a foreign concept to cell phones. ROAMING is an additional per minute fee that you pay when your not using your companies towers.

INTERNATIONAL is another rate structure and may have to be enabled.

AT&T uses Anytime minutes; An alloted number that once you exceed, cost per minute goes way up. With some plans these roll over to the next month.

AT&T also uses Nights and Weekends and you picked whether Night started at 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM. This is a fixed amount too, like say 5000 per month and it doesn't roll over. There is an additional cost for N&W starting at 7:00.

AT&T may also have unlimited MtoM or unlimited mobile to mobile. As long as your on the same carrier then no charge.

Now if you and your friend both had AT&T and one of you were out of the country and the out of the country user was roaming, then I think you will each pay roaming charges.

Out of country rates are different for voice and data.
