That happened to me once and I never figured it out. My doctor ran a couple tests and attributed it to stress. Call your doctor's office, you will more than likely need to make an appointment. You'll feel better for having done so at least, and it's the safest reaction to have for your body's safety.

Was this just yesterday? If you still have cramps, you may not be done with your period yet.

Each cycle is different... and sometimes just plain weird!

Give it a day or two; if no change, call your doc.

Tampons shouldn't have an effect. It is healther though if you do not use one for that long. Not because of blood flow but because it could cause an infection.

Its a rare phenomenon, but it does happen. My cousin suffered from it.
(you'll find what I'm referring to in the insert inside the tampon package)

Periods are (in part) because your endometrial lining sheds each cycle. It gets thicker during your cycle, then sheds at your period if you are not pregnant. So, using a tampon won't affect how much tissue is shed. Like I said, some cycles are just funky. Don't worry too much--unless pregnancy could be a factor.
