A friend & former co-worker and her husband are having a 50th b-day party complete with dinner and open bar at a hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions for an appropriate gift?
Thanks for your help?

How well do you know the couple? For how long? Is it the friend's birthday or the husband's?

Both are celebrating their 50th and I worked with the wife for 7-8 years until she changed jobs 5 yeqars ago. Since, my wife and I have had dinner with her and her husband a few times and have been to their home once.
Thanks for your help,

If they drink, a nice basket of wine/cheese/crackers might be nice.

If they enjoy movies, you could give them a theater gift card (combine in gift basket with candy, popcorn, etc. for a bigger presentation)

We once gave a coworker tickets to a local orchestra performance.

Those are great ideas. Maybe one of those edible arrangements. Those are cool for dinner parties, and a gift certificate!

I'm not sure that you have those there, but they look like this:

Thanks for your gift ideas...I think we'll go with a small basket and theater tickets.
