I just recently got my belly button pierced. Ive been cleaning it with anti-bacterial soap and using Bactine that they gave me at the tattoo/piercing place. It was doing really good until this morning I woke up and my belly button was really sore. Where the top hole is, there is a bump all the way around it. It looks swollen? And a little red.
The man had a hard time piercing it and ended up having to redo it. He said I had "tough skin". He also said that if my body starts rejecting it I needed to take it out because it could cause some bad scar tissue. Im just not sure if that is what it is or if Im just not cleaning it good enough.

If you are cleaning it as directed it should be OK. Keep an eye on it, don't go poking at it without washing your hands first. You could try dabbing some tea tree oil on the area, it's a wonderful all purpose anti-bacterial. If you should start to develop a fever or you notice any pus from the piercing I'd suggest you see your doctor as you have an infection.

Ok, well it sounds like it is infected simply because you said it was swelling up. The best thing to do, is get some sea salt, and boil some water, mix the sea salt and warm water until it disolves then either get gauze or a cotton ball and dip it into the solution. Then hold it where the swelling and redness is for 5 minutes every night and it should take down the swelling. But if it persists i advise to take it out, i had the same problem and my belly button just rejected it and i got lots of scar tissue because of it.
