I have a 5 or so year old American Standard furnace-A/C unit. The A/C compressor is outside and works fine. The furnace fires and works fine also. The trouble is with the blower motor(fan). It seems to run at about 1/4 speed. When it was working,it ran at the same speed(high) whether the heat or A/C was on.I had some flooding issues last winter, but the motor never got wet, however to run capacitor did. I changed that yesterday with a new one of the same rating, but no luck. The fan still runs at a very slow speed and begins to smell after a few minutes of running. It seemed to start having problems in the spring and would work fine one day and not the next,or turning it off and then back on would seem to correct it.I'm currently unemployed and don't really want to call in a service technician if I can do it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

sounds to me like your motor is on its way out. might be having problems with its windings or over heating. more than likely you will need to replace the motor.
