How far can you run the hoses for a dishwasher? The place we live now doesn't have room for a dishwasher near the sink, and we don't have easy access to the floor pipes, so I wanted to connect the dishwasher to the sink pipes, how far can I run everything before it is too far?

About six feet of cabinet space is all that will work the way it is suppose to. Even this way the drain hose has to be run on a level until it gets to the outlet and then go up to the outlet, otherwise all of the water in the hose will go back into the dishwasher.

Usually the water to the dishwasher is teed off the hot water to the sink. Most likely that is 1/2'' pipe. Run 1/2'' or whatever size over to the dishwasher doing any reducing to fit the dishwasher at it. You will then run a hose from the drain to the garbage disposal. Again use a hose that fits the larger fitting if they are different. At the worst, the dishwasher may be a little slow filling and draining. Think about the difference in water flow between the sink closest to the hot water heater and furthest. Do you see much difference? Don't worry about levels. The water in both lines is under pressure and will flow up and down as needed.

Be sure and put a ball valve in the line as a shut off. They are easier to work, and less likely to leak.

Sasquatch, If you follow my directions you may place your dishwasher just about anywhere. Immediately after the discharge hose exits the washer loop it up as high in the cabinet as it will go and secure it with pipe strap, (or you can install a air gap on the counter). Now run the hose back to the disposal or a branch tailpiece the same as you would a drainage line. 1/4" slope to the foot with no bells. This way the pump will only have to pump to the top of the loop and then gravity will take over. Holding the loop,(or air-gap) close to the dish washer will keep any drainage back to the dishwashers sump to a minimum. Good luck. Tom
