My friend gets SSI because s/he is legally blind. s/he is allowed to earn from working a princely sum of $65.00 a month. Because of his/her age, disability and other things healthwise, s/he has not worked much and none after s/he got awarded benefits, but sold something on eBay recently. S/he sent the money from Paypal to his/her own bank account to meet a very large bill.

This has helped pay the bill, but now s/he is afraid about the SSA finding out.

As this is not 'income' ...Most folks wouldn't have to declare it as it was under $1,000.00 and most likely this wouldn't be found unless they did an audit on him/her, I wonder if s/he has anything to worry about? Isn't an occasional eBay sale not a viable income? If s/he gets found out s/he could lose his/her living money and would really die. S/he is in California.

Thank you.
