hey recently i applied for a Canadian work visa and was denied because of a minor criminal charge for pot.but i am wondering if anyone knows if i can still enter the country for a holiday instead,and would i need to inform the Canadian consulate of these plans.

Usually if your denied one type of visa (work visa) then you will probably be denied other visa types as well (visitors visa) but you should just contact the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate where you are and just ask.

EDIT: What i meant is that actually you might be denied entry into Canada, so you need to contact the Canadian Embassy to ask if your allowed into Canada, not to advise them you are going on a cavation to Canada, from the wording of your question and my answer I dont think I was clear that you might be turned away at the border.
