I have a Simplicity 6000 BTU window a/c and the fan has stopped working. If I open it up and spin it with my hand, it will kick in, but stops again after awhile. The compressor and everything else seems to be working.

I disagree! A new fan motor is about $40 and I paid $295 for the unit.
But thanks anyway!

Check capacitor. If good then you will need that fourty dollar motor. And if you can tell me were you can get a fourty dollar motor, i would be very appreciative. I think what the others were saying, is its cheaper to buy a new unit rather than pay someone to work on it. If you pay someone to work on it, you will be about even between cost of repair and cost of replacement. However, if you can locate the correct parts, and can do the fix yourself, you will definatly save money doing it yourself. Please let us know how things work out.

sorry to offend,If I did,,,$295.00 is a bit much for a 6,000 btu window unit. Lowes sells them all day for around $169.00 with a 5 years warranty,,I`ve seen them on sale for $119.99 just a few weeks ago,,,,
I too would like to know where you can find a double shafted motor of the correct rpm (which is very neccessary) for $40 bucks

Mixed emotions here! I got two 5000 btu GE AC window units at HHGreggs four years ago for $200.00 with remote control. They are still working. I suggest replacement rather than repair.
