Is questioning the advice of a senior member not ok on this site?
I realize how great it is to have members that are dedicating themselves to helping others with their problems...and I do appreciate that.
I myself like throwing in the odd piece of info I think I can help with but under no circumstances do I expect my word to become "truth" for anyone, that is for them to decide, and I would have no problem hearing or discussing how my opinion, or advice may not have worked for that person.
If so, is it because the site is trying to stay away from conflict?
And
If so, what if an expert at times doesnt give appropriate advice, (makes a mistake, took the question wrong, wasnt given enough info from the poster, etc) and the questioner takes this advice?

This question has nothing to do with my relationship post, I was being defensive (not rude or mean, just stating how it made me feel) and apologized, it happens.

It did however start me thinking about what ifs....

you merley answer the persons question, don't start argue with the other poster, you merley give what you feel is a good or better answer.

And if you give wrong advice, you my ruin someones life, cause them to lose a job, get a divoce or become a drug using hooker.
So good luck

You always need to think twice before hitting "post quick answer" because there are rules in place here. If you give someone a "reddie" because you disagree, and not because the answer wasn't factually correct you're not using the site correctly and someone will likely say something to you. Also, if you are answering questions in the law section you BETTER know what legal advice you are giving because you could be giving really bad wrong advice (this is the reason that we have the reddie/greenie device, I think). Also if you answer a question in the medical section and it's incorrect this could detrimental to the asker of the question. These are just examples, but like I said "think twice". We are here to help people with the knowledge that we have collectively, because WE WANT TO.

And of course most of the experts here have shown good history of advice,

but as in the legal section we often will "discuss" the meaning of specific words, difference in laws in areas and more.

Yup, it takes a while to learn. If you don't have advice to give in an area, don't give advice.

Is questioning the advice of a senior member not ok on this site?

Most of the regulars here who answer questions, take pride in the accuracy of their answers. If they make a mistake, they WANT that mistake pointed out so the OP gets the right advice.

But, if you do question someone's FACTUAL advice, you need to be sure its wrong. On the other hand if the advice was opinion you are entitled to disagree as long as its done politely.

Hey Hiedijoanne, glad you are liking it here, it an awesome site ;)

Just remember to read the rules of the site and you will be fine. I haven't seen anything you have done wrong so I reckon you will be fine.

Like Scott said, if an expert makes a mistake (it's rare but it does happen) Then just point it out... unless you want to make them agry don't give a 'disagree' unless the info and factually incorrect. Disagrees should never be given for a difference in opinion. :)
