If i get brown stuff before my period does that mean i'm doing to start, or am i spotting?

It all depends. For some women they spot brown blood. This is because the ovaries let out a discharge before the actual red blood. But you have to be careful and ask yourself some vital questions. Does this always happen before your period? Have you engaged in any sexual activities before this? Has your private area been exsposed to any type of bacteria? Does it smell funny?
