It could be a simple hormonal imbalance.

This is not okay, you need to have this checked and treated.

It isn't uncommon for women who have given birth recently to have heavy or unusual menstruation, however, it seems that you're bleeding profusely, so I would agree with Alty and go see your obgyn and bring it up.

It could also be a sign of low iron. I had my period for 4 weeks, I was like a Niagra Falls.

Actually, unless she's feeling other symptoms, a trip to the ER may be useless. Heavy bleeding isn't uncommon after birth, although this specific case seems to be somewhat more to the extreme.

Very true Sneezy- but it's always best to know- maybe not the ER but a trip to the walk in clinic would be a good thing.
