Have you defined the communication port properly in Windows? Usually these are already defined, but someone could have trashed them.

Finally, have you tried to run any on-board printer tests? You do this by powering on the printer an then disconnecting the printer from the PC. The printer should have a diagnostics menu or maintenance menu.
