Are we talking about the surface area of the birdhouse? It seems so.

The front is 4 x 7. The door is 5.7 square inches.

We need to know the shape of the birdhouse. Is it a cube? Does it have a pitched roof like many houses?

If it's a cube, then there are 6 sides and each side is 4 x 7

(4)(7)(6)=168\,in^2

However, we have a 5.7 square inch hole that we have to subtract from the area:

168\,in^2\,-5.7\,=\,162.3\,in^2
