As of April 1, 2009 the state sales tax is going up by 1%. At the same time some localities within CA are also changing their local sales tax rates - some up, some down, and some unchanged. So depending on where you live the new combined state and local sales tax is anywhere from 8.25% to 10.25%. Here's a listing by locality:
