asking this question on behalf of my wife who is currently in another country. We had protected sex just after her last period and she has just mentioned that her period is over 1 week late this month. We're worried it could be a sign of pregnancy. She's currently gone away and doesn't have access to a pregnancy test. How can we confirm if she is pregnant or not. She has been stressed quite a lot recently. any advice much appreciated.

the only way to know for sure is to test at a clinic or use the tests found at stores, if that not available then she could look for sighns or symptoms such as vomiting in the early morning, tender breasts, sometimes female intuition, heightened sense of smell, dizziness e.t.c But these symptoms wont be noticeable if she's just a week late. let her see a doctor once she's back from wherever she's at.

As Claire58 said, she will have to take a test when she is able to.

Her period could be off due to the stress, traveling, etc.. In the meantime, until she knows for sure, it would be wise for her to treat herself as though she might be pregnant....making any lifestyle changes that she knows would be beneficial.
