So i recently had my period all was normal i also take birth control (yasmin 28) , but ive noticed recently that if i forget to take my pill i have serious spotting. So i can take the pill monday tuesday and if i forget wednsday, on wednsday i get spotting. Normally when i would stop taking the pills to get my period it would take a couple days for my period to kick in. Also when i do get the spotting its like having my period its alot! some times its just a bit and i catch it right away sometimes its alot and will last for 2 days, it range's from a normal colour to a brown. I dont forget to take my pill often i forgot one day earlyer this week cuz i was super busy that day and one day last week. But thats the most i have forgotten in a while! Im just fed up with the spotting im starting to wonder if i even take my pill to last if i will get spotting! Im just wondering how does the spotting appear soo fast! And is that ok? Should i switch Birth control? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am a physician and would be happy to help. Anytime you take combination birth control (like your Yas) you can have irregular menses and even spotting occassionally, especially when missing pills. Without the progesterone in the pill your endometrium will slough. This is a normal response and everyone's body is different and will react differently to hormone supplements. I would encourage you to use alternate forms of birth control if you are missing pills. It only takes missing one or two days to have the potential for conception. The brown color of your discharge is normal as well (this is likely "old blood" and endometrial tissue). If you can take the medication as prescribed and continue to have problems you should discuss stopping this pill all together for a while to "reset" your cycle with your OB/GYN. Hope this helps.
