our son's in-laws will be coming in June to stay the week-end for an event for family.
is it proper to offer to get them a place to stay & pay for it or just offer to get them a place to stay & they pay for it. the place would either be a B & B or a Hotel.

Hello dutch

Why not contact them and offer to make local hotel / B&B reservations?
Just include that you making local reservations may be cheaper for them than they doing the same over the Internet, and leave it to them to decide.

In general, I don't think it would be your position to pay for their lodging. However, can you tell us what the event is? Also, are you the hosts of the event? What are the arrangements for other guests?
