Hi,
I am filing US tax return. However my question is that the site I am using requests for my wife's SSN # which I do not have as she was in India. She never joined me in the US. I was on an L1 stay. How do I deal with the situation?

Thanks,
Chetan Sharma

When did you enter the U.S. on L1? Your visa status before L1?

I was in US from Jan 12 2008 to Sep 6 2008 and this was my first visit so I had no visa before this for US. I got the L1 visa directly. Hope I have answered your question.

Thanks

Your wife's SSN/ITIN should not have been an issue, because you CANNOT claim her as a dependent on your dual-status return because she is NOT in the U.S. with you.

You CANNOT file as a resident alien for 2008.
