Why does my heating cycles right back on after it goes off?

Several possibilities...post brand/model # of unit. Try this: Increase thermostat setting about 5 degrees and observe. Does the short-cycling continue, or does the unit run steadily until the higher setpoint is reached, then resume short-cycling?
