My unit runs continuously and doesn't turn off. Sometime the vents are blowing warm air but the majority of the time it is cool air. I had someone come look at it and they said the compressor isn't working. He said we can't buy a new compressor because the unit it too old, therefore, we have to buy a new unit. My light bill has more than doubled. What should I do? And if I don't get a new unit now, will the air still work during the summer?

if the compressor is bad,,,no, it won`t work any better come summer. The warm air you are feeling might be coming from your back-up furnace /airhandler,,,and again your compressor might not be bad. ((((Get a second oppinion)))) if you end up buying a new unit,,,get several estimates,,,,like at least 2 or 3.

Seek another opinion if you aren't confident in the first.
