We have had a serious lime/calcium problem in our water. Huge chunks of it, gross! I know this probably comes from our water heater... but I worry about the effects from consuming it? We are about to attempt to flush the water heater and hopefully get rid of this problem... however, as I said before... what does that stuff do to you. It can't be good!? Thanks

Dissolved minerals can build up inside pipes and water heaters. The best thing you can do is flush your heater twice per year. Attach a garden hopse to the drain spigot and direct it outside or into a sump. Open the spigot with the water supply main still on full, allow to drain for at least a minute or until the water is totally clear. Not flushing the tank can allow the deposits to build to the point that they can clog faucets and valves when they start to break loose.
