I am wondering if it is normal to lactate? I have a son that is eleven months old. I have the Merina iud. Does this just mean this is when I am ovulating or does it possibly mean that I am pregnant? BTW I breast fed my son for 6 weeks.

There are a number of possible reasons, but it is not uncommon to still leak or be able to express a bit of milk after having had children....especially if you breastfed for awhile. Some women will find this happens months later, and on occasion even years later. Most likely it is due to this.

Ovulation may increase the incidence for some women.....could be pregnancy (although probably the least likely reason), could be elevated levels of prolactin (which if it remains elevated could effect chances of getting pregnant again), rarely is it anything serious. Never hurts to let your doctor know however.
