hvac1000 Feb 5, 2009, 07:34 AM i would have but i already replaced the entire unit, inne to know what caused it.
Dirty air filters
Dirty evaporator coils.
Short cycling.
Defective motor capacitor.
Improper voltage
Imposed load larger that the motor is designed for.
The above items cause the motor to be stressed and over time lead to premature failure.
mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 07:58 AM when they took out the motor, it was hot as could be. the HVAC people said they could not find a replacement, when it happend it smelled like burnning metal and a damp smell comming out of the return vent. where was the smells comming from?
Mower_Man
hvac1000 Feb 5, 2009, 08:19 AM The motor winding burnt that is the smell of askril/varnish on the motor windings you smelled. Motors are always available so I guess they lied to you.
mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 08:25 AM they said that it would be better to replace it,they said it would be better to replace the entire unit, a 4 ton goodman packaged unit, so i had it changed over to a packaged unit.
What was the damp smell? Thanks! Mower_Man. reply soon!
hvac1000 Feb 5, 2009, 09:56 AM That I have no idea of. It could of been moisture in the duct from condensation.
mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 10:00 AM I need advic from you hvac1000, do you think that shoud of got a replacement motor,or got the packaged unit?(i already went with the packaged unit) Reply soon with answers,
Mower_man. Thanks for all you help,hvac1000.
P.S i am only 13.
hvac1000 Feb 5, 2009, 10:09 AM At 13 you should not be making those kinds of decisions. I always tell people when they are spending there money to let there wallet be there guide. If you have the money get a new unit and if not get a new motor.
mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 10:12 AM i did not decide me,my parents and the HVAC people ok.
