Defective motor capacitor. Improper voltage Imposed load larger that the motor is designed for. The above items cause the motor to be stressed and over time lead to premature failure. mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 07:58 AM when they took out the motor, it was hot as could be. the HVAC people said they could not find a replacement, when it happend it smelled like burnning metal and a damp smell comming out of the return vent. where was the smells comming from? Motors are always available so I guess they lied to you. mower_man Feb 5, 2009, 08:25 AM they said that it would be better to replace it,they said it would be better to replace the entire unit, a 4 ton goodman packaged unit, so i had it changed over to a packaged unit. I always tell people when they are spending there money to let there wallet be there guide.
