I have a house in which I have 2 lodgers/tennants. One of them has a tenancy agreement and one does not. Both tennants have been no problem at all however, I was aproached by the boyfriend of the one that does not have a written agreement who ask if he could stay a few nights a week if he contributed to the bills. I explained that due to HMO laws he is unable to be a resident within the property for which he assured me would not be a problem as it would be on an adhoc basis for a short period. I made it quite clear that he would not be a tenant.
Due to a few issues I have found it necessary to ask the boyfriend to cease staying at the house as from 1st March.
He feels that I am required to give him two months notice, hoever I have remenided him that he is not a tenent but a guest within the house. Therefore he does not get tenent rights.
Please could you advise me on this matter. I live in the UK
