Hello, I worked for a company in SC for a few months, but I resided in GA. I've got my W2, and there is no number in the 'State Income Tax' (#17) spot on my W2. Do I file a non resident form, and do I owe full taxes? I thought the company would've took out for state taxes. Thank you for any help.

If you are present in a state, then any income earned during this period, must be reported to the state.

To your resident state, you must report your worldwide income for the year. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Working or Living in Two or More states (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/06/working-in-two-or-more-states.html)

Chris:

The employer should have withheld the state taxes for South Carolina.

This does not change the requirement for filing the SC AND GA tax return, it will just make it harder and more painful, as you will have to pay at least SC taxes.

Hi, thx for the information. I contacted the company today (they had my ssn wrong), and they said that I did not make enough for them to take out state taxes. Does that mean that I might owe state taxes? Thank you for your help.

Check at the state website for filing requirements. If you are required to file, you may owe state tax.
