I am a US citizen and I own a home in Aruba. Can I deduct any expenses on my tax return other than my real estate taxes? For example, I need to put a new roof on my home because of water damage and it is not covered by my homeowner's insurance here in Aruba. Is that expense deductible? Are there any other deductible expenses? Thank you for the help.

Do you rent the home when you are not using it? If so, then you can deduct expenses for maitenance against your rental income. Otheriwse, maintenance of a vacation home is not deductible any more than maintenance of your main residence.
