Can I just get under the sink and unscrew it with a regular tool or do I need to buy something specific?
Am I going to have to take out the entire sink? That seems to be a very difficult thing to do, how does one remove a sink and then put it back? Can't I just lie under the sink and do it that way?
I've never owned a house so all these things are very new to me. I don't want to hire someone to do it because I think that it is something a regular healthy person should be able to do on their own, right?

You don't remove sink. Just faucet. Yes, indeed, it is a tight place to work in and you will have to lay down on your back. Also you will need some basic tools to accomplish that.

Depending on what type of faucet and sink you have, the work itself may be easy or more complicated.

Can you post a photo of your sink and faucet? Or at least describe in detail what type of sink and faucet you have and what type/kind/brand of faucet you want to install ?

Milo speaks of basic tools. You'll need a basin wrench,(see image) to unscrew the faucet retaining nuts. Good luck, Tom

Yes you can just get under and unscrew it. As stated above.. it depends on the sink.. but here are the basics

Things you need. A wrench, and plumbing tape.

Its called teflon tape.. its used to seal the threads... any hardware store should have it.. cheap.

1st - TURN OFF THE WATER! Lol... usually there are shut off valves right under the sink, if not, look in the basement.

Once its off you are ready to start. Turn on the faucets to release the pressure in the hot and cold...
Grab a bucket or a pot or something to catch the run off...
There will be 2 hoses hooked from the valves under the sink to the faucet. Using a wrench, unscrew each one at the faucet end. Drop the hose end into the bucket so the water in it doesn't go all over. Make sure you remember which is the hot and cold :)

Next, right above that, the faucet should be connected to the counter/sink with big plastic nuts.(could be one, or 2, etc.. Depending on the type of faucet) these can usually be removed by hand, if not, use a wrench to loosen it first... finsish by hand. Once these 1 or 2 nuts are off, you should be able to just lift out the faucet.

Now, basically you do the reverse. There should be instructions in the new one. When you get to the point of screwing the hoses back in. Use the telfon tape. Tightly wrap the theads (clockwise so when you tighten it it doesn't unwind). You should go around about 4 times.. pull the tape tight so it kind of stretches as you wrap.

That's basically it... once everything is hooked up, turn the water back on and check for leaks.
