We have moved into a walkout condo and we are having problems with the ejector pump in the basement. It has backed up twice and the builder tells us what we are flushing down the toilet is stopping it up and causing the problem. We have always had a sump pump before so this has never been an issue but if you can't flush toilet paper down the toilet what use is it. Is there anything that should not get flushed down the toilet or is there something else that might be going wrong?

If you are on Sewer Ejector system, you should know what you can, and cannot, flush down the toilet. Some of the items you should never flush down to the Sewer ejector are: tampons, kleenex, paper towels, make up removal pads, etc. These items do not disintegrate easily, or never, and will get entangled in the rotor of the pump. In addition, small solid items, like small rubber toys, bottle caps, or occasional dish rag or scrub pad flushed down the toilet will cause the pump to malfunction.
