I have a bad condenser motor and it is an AO smith 1/4hp 1075rpm.The factory motor has only 3 wires a brown purple and black. The wiring diagram shows purple and brown are going to a sep. cap and the black is the line. In the a/c unit the purple goes to the defrost control board and the brown to the capacitor and the black to the contactor. Now on the new motor ot is an AO smith with 4 wires,a brown,brown /white strip, a yellow and black. The wiring diagram shows the brown and brown/white strip are going to a sep. cap and the yellow and black are line. I think the brown and brown/white strip are going to the capacitor and the defrost board but I'm not sure if the yellow or black are used going to the contactor. Also if one is not used which one don't I use. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks:)

According to the info you have posted, the two brown wires connect to opposite poles on the capacitor. Insulate connections with a boot or electrical tape if the capacitor won't mount back in original location, and don't connect any other wires to these. The yellow and black wires connect to the defrost relay and contactor as the previous motor did. Either wire can be connected to either terminal separately.

Thanks so much KC13! One more question the original fan used the primary capacitor shared by the compressor.This new fan uses a small capacitor,will I need to run a jumper from the old capacitor to the small one? Thanks again!

No! Keep this one electrically independent of the dual capacitor. Review my prior post. No need to connect any wires to fan terminal of the dual cap.

Alright that helps I was just concerned that the primary capacitor would still be used for the new fan motor.I guess I wasn't grasping that the motor will now be independent. Thanks for all the help!!
