I have a sewage ejector in my basement. I live in a 3 year old home and the pump is original to the house. Up until now we have had no problems. However now our pump is not kicking on by itself. Luckily we have an alarm hooked up to it and when it goes off I simply give the pipe a small shake and the pump will then kick on. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? For information sake the only things on the pump are one washer and one toilet. Neither of them new to the home.

Check all wires for loose wireing in/at the pump connection(wire nuts) If someone used wire nuts to wire it, turn power off and take wire nuts off to check connections. The Pump vibration may cause it to kick off as shaking it lets it start. A partial clog could create a vortex and the pump gets a vacume and the safety shuts it down. Is the pump hot all rigjt after it shuts down?

Your float is catching something inside the collection bucket. Open up the lid, reposition the float so it stays clear of pump, pipes, cables and walls. Run several cycles while lid is open to make sure float is functioning properly. Close the lid, seal.
