Hi, just added W/D upstairs. I think code says I must have washer drain pan, common sense says get it. Here's the question: I can't prop washer up because it's up against a knee wall and unwilling to cut into 150 year old wide pine flooring.
So I don't think I can p trap coming out of the drain pan. This precludes connecting to main drainage system due to harmful gasses. Can I simply drill a small hole out the back wall and put a hose system to drain water in case of backup? If so, would you put hole in at floor level and can it come straight out the back of the drain pan? Should I worry about any freezing issues (NH)? Otherwise do you put next to dryer vent? Perhaps this keeps it warm?

Thanks, by the way I searched for a half hour and couldn't find an answer to this, so sorry if I missed it.

If your washer leaks you would need a large drain hose to get rid of the water or the water might overflow the pan. Good luck 99% of the time we are never nere the washer when it is being used.

I don't think I can p trap coming out of the drain pan. If you discharge out a wall you will not have to trap the pan.

It's against code in my area to put anything in the city sewer that's not sewage or gray water.

can I simply drill a small hole out the back wall and put a hose system to drain water in case of backup? If so, would you put hole in at floor level and can it come straight out the back of the drain pan? Tes you can. The pan will have a outlet already in place,(see image) and all you have to do is slope it to the outside.

Should I worry about any freezing issues Since the drain line will be dry until it's needed you'll have no freezing problems.
Good luck and thank for rating my answer. Tom
