1. Social Security tax 6.2% of the first $10,200 in wages for 2008 and the Medicare tax is 1.45% of all wages.

4. Federal income tax and state income tax rates depend upon your total income.
For single status, on the federal income tax return for 2008, the income up to $8,950 is tax free. Your taxable income is your total income minus $8,950.
Your taxable income from 0 to $8,025 is taxed at 10%.
Then your taxable income from $8.025 to $32,550 is taxed at 15%.
Taxable income from $32,550 to $78,850 will be taxed at 25%.
Taxable income from $78850 to $164,550 will be taxed at 28%.
