Hi Boop63

Usually all this connects into 1 pipe...

The garbage disposal connects to the sink and the dishwasher connects into the dishwasher connection at the side of the garbage disposal (knock out plug needs to be removed) and then all gets piped into a PTRAP that then gets connected onto the pipe coming out of the wall... see picture.

If you have two pipes coming out of the wall it is possible that in your area you need to connect the dishwasher indirectly. Here, indirectly means you would be required to install the dishwasher hose into its own PTRAP with a standpipe as tall as possible under the sink.

The two pipes, if one is through the floor and the other is through the wall, you could have a waste and vent pipe in which all the above connects into 1 ptrap as described with ptrap, but connects into a sanitary tee fitting that runs to the bottom pipe and runs to the top pipe...

Anyway, I could go on guessing. Plumbing codes differ quite a bit from state to state.

Best idea here is to either describe your set up in great detail, post a picture here so we can see it all, or call the local plumbing inspector and see what he requires to be done here.

We're glad to help if we can... :)

PS... the air gap fitting in the below picture may or may not be required in your area. In my area we don't use air gaps but instead use a simple high loop under the counter. You may want to discuss this with inspector as well. I'm wondering if you will be having a final inspection... if so best to get to know the inspector so you don't end up doing work that will need to be removed.
