I have an american friend who was convicted for assault over 20 years ago, and wishing to visit canada, is this possible, if so what requirements needed?

I doubt it's still on the computers BUT felony or misdemeanor? I trust your friend served his/her sentence, paid the fines, finished probation, no open warrant?
