Hello everyone,

I woke up this morning to my Trane xe1200 making a loud knocking noise while it was running. I know next to nothing about heating and cooling and I am concerned since I haven't heard it making this much noise before. I live in Texas and it was the coldest night we have had so far this year. ( I moved into the hosue this summer). Could it be a compressor issue that is casuing this noise?

Thanks,
JB

Yes, it could be a compressor issue, but it could be something else too. Where is the noise coming from? Indoor air handler? Outdoor unit? If the noise is coming from the outdoor unit, shut it down ASAP and call repair. Is this a heat pump or A/C with other gas or electric furnace? Let's start with that.
