I used Ion Color Brilliance permanent hair color in dark brown. I have ethnic hair (dreadlocs) and it turned out jet black. It has been two weeks and I have used various shampoos to help remove some of the color. It is no longer black, but it is a VERY dark brown. I would like to re-color to try and get that chocolate brown I was after. I was wondering if I should go two or three shades lighter than the color swatches to get this effect. Unfortunately, I do not have the money to go to a professional yet, my hair is in good condition.

Thanks.

I would say about two shades lighter.
