I have a 7 yr old washing machine that does not shut off once it is filled up? It sometimes does turn off but recently I have even put it on a small load and the water still runs when it goes into the next cycle? Is it some type of sensor that needs to be fixed? Is it an east task and should I try before I go out and purchase another machine? Thanks for your help?

When a top-loading washer doesn't stop bringing in water, it's usually due to one of two possibilities. First, you must determine under what conditions it doesn't stop. If the washer won't stop filling and unplugging the machine from the wall plug stops it, you have something wrong in the fill sensing area, e.g. Pressure switch, air dome, pressure hose, etc. If unplugging it doesn't stop it, and only turning off the water faucet does, then you have a bad water inlet valve. Let me know which is true and we can go further if you like, provided you include the complete model number off the data tag. There may be other possibilities, but without your model number, this is all I can say at this point. Cheers.

Thanks. It's a Whirlpool Supreme, model # lsr8233e. I will check to see if it stops once I unplug it.
