I have a Ruud Heat Pump. The inside fan will not turn off when thermostat temp is reached. It seems to work fine in the Air Condition cycle, but not in heat mode.

I have changed the inside Air Handler and tstat thinking this would solve the problem, but no luck.

Any suggestions???

If its not over heating the house with the blower running all the time the heating side must be cycling the way it should with the thermostat. You may have a shorted 24v blower wire with the reversing valve wire from the thermostat or fan coil. Some of the older Rheem and Rudd heat pumps would send 24v to the reversing valve in the heat mode. If you can turn the thermostat to off and the blower quits. I would start looking for a shorted wire in the low voltage side.

The inside unit is new. I had the same problem before I had the unit changed. The old unit actually got so hot the copper in the bottom melted.

The copper tube from the heat pump is very hot to the touch. Is this normal?

T-Top. I have purchased new wire to run to the tstat and outside unit. Is this where the short could be located??

The larger refrigerant line should be hot to the touch when in heating mode. You never did say if the blower shuts off after the thermostat is in the off mode or if the outside heatpump is cycling with the thermostat. I need that info to help.

In Air condition mode, the unit functions the way it should.

In Heat mode, the tstat reaches the desired temp and then it blows "cool" air, not cold, cool. I am assuming the heat pump is turning off.

I do not belive the fan will turn off unless I throw the power switch off.

Checking the outside unit, I noticed the tstat wire covering is frayed and you can see the wires inside the wrap.

I mistakenly idetified this unit as Ruud, it is a Rheem.

I changed the wire from the Heat pump to the Tstat. NO Luck.

I mentioned the refrigerant line was hot to the touch, what it should have said was extreamly hot. You can not touch.

The unit does go off if I turn it off on the tstat.

Its starting to sound like you have a shorted wire from the the thermostat to the fan coil unit.

No, same name. I will change the tstat wire and see if that does it.

I changed the Tstat wires and still have the same issue. The blower continues to blow after temp is reached. The heat pump does shut off.

Is it normal for the blower to continue to blow for a certain period of time after the heat pump shuts off? The reason I ask, the tstat is just above the return vent and I am wondering if the temp changes a degree before that cycle is completed.

There is no voltage on any of the wires after the heat pump shuts down, with the exception of the red wire.

This unit is on an additon to the house (1 room downstairs and one up) and the return brings air from the surrounding rooms. Someone told me maybe I need to add another return because the air flow quickly changes the temp.
