Hello,

I'm running WinME on my older desktop and it has suddenly started freezing (not booting). I turn it on, Compaq appears on the screen, this goes away and is replaced by the WinME screen which then goes away and it freezes there every time. This computer is not used very often and was working perfectly just a few days ago, it gave no hint that something was going wrong with it.

I've tried pressing F8 to bring up the startup option screen and have tried all options, normal froze at the same spot as above, logged froze immediately, safe mode froze as above, and step-by-step confirmation took me through a few Y/N questions then froze. It does not show a command prompt option.

I can't seem to get to anything that will allow me to do any repair. Any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks,
Naomi

At which selective option does it freeze? If you get a bootdisk you can open "c:\boot.log" to and see what it says but I doubt it'll be any help

I suggest to get your ME disk and install over your current installation:choose "upgrade" when it asks. You'll need to reinstall most of your software that was on there but your documents folder won't be touched. If it's a recover cd make sure it doesn't wipe your stuff before installing as they sometimes do

Even better you should stick 2000 or 98se on there (assuming xp would be too slow), ME is the buggiest OS you'll find.

It's freezing at all options. It freezes when I simply start it up normally, I've tried all the options on the startup option screen (by pressing F8) and get the same result.
