Recently, I have remodeled my entire house. Because of that, I have alot of furniture that I would like to donate to Habitat for Humanity. I spoke to an accountant who told me that I could donate it up to an amount of $500.00. After which I have to fill out a form and get an estimate on any remaining items over the $500. My delima is I have several bedroom suites, exercise equipment, dining room suite which all together will be more than $500. Is it true that I must get an estimate and how do I go about getting that to satisfy the IRS? Also, what form do I need to fill out?
