we are trying to install a newer thermostat. the old one has several wires about 8 or 9. the new one only has 4 or 5 terminals. what do i do with all the extra wires.
old wire colors 2 reds, 1 green, light green, blue, white, brown, yellow

You probably have the wrong thermostat. If you have a heat pump you probably have the wrong thermostat.

not only do you have the wrong tstat,,,,,you have the wrong brand,,,,,,get something (almost anything ) besides a Hunter,,,,,junk,junk,junk
