Have lost video drivers on my persario 5008us all I get on startup is compaq on screen have gone to bios and reset defaults and tried recovery cd and it stops at about 46 percent done roommate cleaned keyboard before it happened use windows me

All joking aside, it sounds to me like a faulty recovery CD or a hd that is in the process of dying. I would recommend hyper-cleaning the CD to be sure.
That failing, I would consider replacing the HD.
