santosai143 Mar 21, 2006, 05:51 PM Hi,
I was in F1 status upto: sep 31st, 2005. My OPT( Optional Practical Training) started in Oct 2005. since Oct 2005 i have been working as a contractor.
so , Can anyone please tell me what tax form i need to file
1040 (or) 1040NR ?
waiting for the reply,
santosh.

Santosh:
You will need to file Form 1040NR with a Schedule C. While you are on F-1 visa status, you are NOT liable for self-employment taxes, so Schedule SE is NOT needed.
santosai143 Mar 22, 2006, 03:57 PM hi,
Thanks , that helps a lot.
Can i just file 1040NR-EZ , would this alone work ( i used a tax tool, it generated me just this) ?
santosh.

AtlantaTaxExpert Mar 22, 2006, 08:28 PM No. You cannot document Form 1099-MISC income using Form 1040NR-EZ.
You need Form 1040NR with a Schedule C.
santosai143 Apr 6, 2006, 05:39 PM Hi,
I worked in Florida for 3 months, Florida doesnt have state tax right,
so do i need to file state tax for Florida ?
please let me know,
santosh!
b9modi Apr 6, 2006, 07:45 PM You cannot file a state tax in Seven states (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming).
AtlantaTaxExpert Apr 7, 2006, 08:01 PM B9Modi is correct; Florida is one of seven states with no state INCOME tax. There are other taxes to compensate, however.
